Bau des KdF-Seebades Prora

Between 1936 and 1939, the Kraft durch Freude ("Strength through Joy") seaside resort on the island of Rügen, which was designed to accommodate up to 20,000 holidaymakers, was built in the district of Prora directly on the Baltic coast. This photograph shows the construction of the high-rise buildings, only a portion of which were completed. Construction work ended with the outbreak of the Second World War.
