Richard Boyle, der 3. Earl of Burlington, ließ die Villa im palladianischen Stil im Londoner Stadtviertel Chiswick zwischen 1725 und 1729 erbauen. Bemerkenswert an Chiswick House ist auch die umfangreiche Gartenanlage, die von William Kent (ca. 1684–1748) angelegt wurde und die ein frühes Beispiel des englischen Landschaftsgartens darstellt.
